Training, demonstration, fairs and publications — the university's work on farmers' own land.
Research that never leaves the station is not finished.
Extension is the third of the university's three mandates, alongside teaching and research. It covers everything the university does with farmers rather than about them: training courses, demonstration plots on their own fields, agricultural fairs, rural programmes and the printed material that stays in the house after the trainer has gone.
Not all of it happens face to face. Advisories go out by phone, message and local radio, the university's call centre takes questions from the field on the day they arise, and workshops and seminars bring researchers, technicians and farmers into the same room to review what the season actually produced.
All of it is run by the Directorate of Extension from the university's training centre in Rajbiraj, in coordination with local government, agriculture knowledge centres and farmer groups across the districts of Madhesh.
