Seasonal Training
Training delivered in the week the decision has to be made — not months before or after.
Advice has a date on it.
A lesson on nursery management is worth little in January and a great deal in the fortnight before sowing. Seasonal training is timed to the calendar the crop keeps: before rice nursery, before wheat sowing, at the point pests usually appear, and before harvest and storage.
Sessions are short — usually half a day — and are held in the village, often at the demonstration plot itself, so what is discussed is standing in front of the group while it is discussed.
Through the year
- 01Pre-monsoon: rice nursery, seed treatment, land preparation
- 02Monsoon: transplanting, weed and water management, pest scouting
- 03Post-monsoon: harvest, threshing, drying and safe storage
- 04Winter: wheat and pulse sowing, irrigation scheduling, top dressing
- 05Spring: maize and mung sowing, water use, heat management
