Agronomy Farm
Cereal, pulse and oilseed trials — the field crops that fill the province's plates and its cropping calendar.
Three crops a year, and the soil that has to carry all three.
The agronomy farm carries the university's field-crop trials across all three seasons — rice in the monsoon, wheat and pulses in winter, maize and mung in spring. Because the same ground grows all of them, the farm studies the rotation as a whole and not just the crop in front of it.
Work here covers variety evaluation, sowing and transplanting dates, plant population and spacing, nutrient management against soil test results, weed and water management, and the residue and tillage practices that decide how quickly the next crop can go in.
Cereals
Rice, wheat and maize — variety, date, population and nutrient trials.
Pulses & oilseeds
Lentil, chickpea, mung and mustard, and what they return to the soil.
Soil & nutrients
Fertiliser recommendations built on soil test values, not on habit.
Tillage & residue
Zero-till, residue retention and turnaround time between crops.
