Faculty of Fishery
Planned — aquaculture, fish nutrition and health, and the pond and wetland fisheries of the Madhesh plain.
A province of ponds, with the fish coming from elsewhere.
Madhesh has the water: ponds, ditches, seasonal wetlands, and paddy fields that stand flooded for months. It also has a fish market largely supplied from outside the province. Aquaculture is one of the few enterprises here that can produce a return from a small area of land that is otherwise low-value.
A Faculty of Fishery would cover pond construction and management, carp and other species suited to the plain, hatchery and fingerling production, fish nutrition, water quality, disease management, integrated rice–fish systems, and post-harvest handling and marketing.
The faculty is not yet constituted and no programme is enrolling. This page will carry the faculty's own text once it is established.
