Rural Agricultural Programme
Village-level programmes run with local government, cooperatives and farmer groups across the districts of Madhesh.
Working with a village, not visiting one.
A single training day rarely changes a cropping system. The rural agricultural programme commits the university to a set of villages over a longer period: a baseline of what is grown and what limits it, an agreed plan with the palika and the local farmer groups, and then training, demonstration and follow-up through the seasons.
Programmes are shaped around who is actually farming. Women run a large share of the day-to-day work in Madhesh households, and landless and tenant families need enterprises that do not assume land — so goat rearing, mushroom, vegetable nursery and kitchen garden work sit alongside the field-crop programme.
With local government
Plans agreed with the palika and the agriculture knowledge centre.
Through farmer groups
Cooperatives and groups as the working unit, not individual visits.
Landless-friendly enterprise
Goat, mushroom, nursery and kitchen garden work for households without land.
Followed up
Baseline at the start, review at the end — not a one-day visit.
