Farmers' Fair
The season's work put on show — varieties, machinery, produce and the people behind them, in one place.
A day when the university and the province's farmers stand in the same field.
The university holds agricultural fairs where the year's research, the extension programme and the province's own producers are shown together. Stalls carry seed and planting material, machinery and tools, produce from demonstration plots, livestock, and the departments' own trial results.
The fair is also where the extension side does its listening. Farmers arrive with a diseased leaf in a bag or a question about a crop that failed, and those questions are collected — a good number of the next season's trials start on a fairground.
