Directives
Standing instructions issued by the university's authorities, binding until withdrawn.
Issued once, in force until withdrawn.
A directive is an instruction issued under existing authority — by the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar or a directorate — that binds the university until it is amended or withdrawn. Directives are how a general rule is applied to a specific and continuing situation: an office order on working hours, a standing instruction on how a particular category of file is to be handled, a requirement placed on all departments for a given cycle.
A directive cannot go beyond the regulation it rests on. Where a directive and a regulation appear to conflict, the regulation prevails and the directive is corrected.
