Faculty of Forestry
Planned — agroforestry, community forest management and the tree cover a farming plain cannot do without.
Trees on a farm are not a separate subject to the farm.
On the plain, trees are part of the farming system rather than an alternative to it: fodder from the field bund, fuelwood, timber for a house, shade for livestock, windbreaks, and the bank vegetation that decides how much land a river takes in a bad monsoon.
A Faculty of Forestry would cover silviculture and nursery practice, agroforestry systems suited to a smallholding, community and private forest management, non-timber forest products, watershed and riverbank work, and the forest policy and tenure arrangements that govern all of it in Nepal.
The faculty is not yet constituted and no programme is enrolling. This page will carry the faculty's own text once it is established.
