Examination Board
Examination policy, conduct, result approval and discipline — the body a result is published on the authority of.
A result is a decision, and someone has to take it.
The Examination Board governs assessment. It frames examination policy and procedure within the university's regulations, approves the examination calendar, sets the rules for question setting, moderation, evaluation and re-totalling, appoints or approves examiners, and grants the final approval under which a result is published.
It is also where examination misconduct is decided. A case reported from an examination centre is placed before the board with the invigilator's report and the candidate's explanation, and the penalty — from cancellation of a paper to debarment for a stated period — is recorded as a decision of the board rather than of any individual.
The Office of the Examination Controller is the executive arm of the board: it runs what the board decides and brings the results back for approval.
