Faculty of Veterinary Science
Planned — animal health, clinical practice and veterinary public health for the livestock of Madhesh.
The province keeps the animals; the treatment has to travel too far.
Madhesh carries a large share of Nepal's cattle, buffalo, goat and poultry population, and a household here often has more capital standing in the shed than growing in the field. Veterinary services are correspondingly thin: a sick animal is a serious loss, and the nearest qualified treatment can be a district away.
A Faculty of Veterinary Science is within the university's mandate for that reason. It would carry anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology, medicine and surgery, theriogenology and veterinary public health, together with a teaching hospital and a clinical service the districts could use.
The faculty is not yet constituted, and no programme is enrolling. Animal production subjects are taught meanwhile by the Department of Animal Science under the Faculty of Agriculture. This page will carry the faculty's own text once it is established.
