Directorate of Extension
The office that carries the university's work out to the farmers of Madhesh — and brings their problems back.
A university is only as useful as its last kilometre.
The Directorate of Extension is the university's working relationship with the farm households of the province. It runs the training centre, the farmer training calendar, demonstration plots on farmers' own land, seasonal training tied to the sowing and harvest windows, and the agricultural fairs where a season's work is shown to the people it was done for.
The traffic runs both ways. Extension staff carry recommendations out from the research farms, and carry back what the fields actually did with them — which is how the next season's research programme gets its questions.
The directorate also publishes: leaflets in Nepali and Maithili, crop calendars, package-of-practice booklets and the university's extension bulletins.
